How to Start a New Student Organization

We have over 650 Registered Student Organizations at UGA, so there is usually something for everyone; however, if you check our website and can’t find a group that interests you, or if you are interested in starting an entirely new organization our office is here to help!

Criteria for starting a new student organization:

1. Attend a Mandatory Information Session

  • At this session you will learn more about the Center for Student Organizations, important policies and procedures, as well as how to register your organization online.

2. Recruit at least 6 students to help you start the organization

3. Create an organizational constitution:

  • Your constitution is your governing document, and as such it should outline all aspects of your organization.

The Constitution must include:

  • How officers are elected and removed from office (by what vote?)
  • What quorum is for your organization (percentage of membership required to be present to conduct business)?
  • How your organization make amendments (by what vote).
  • Include the student organization Non-Discrimination Clause
