Statement of Purpose:

Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 21st, 1981 at Rutgers University - New Brunswick and has since grown into over 40 chapters nationwide. We are the FIRST Multicultural Greek Lettered Organization in the United States, and, as sisters, we strive to uphold three goals (academic excellence, unity among all women, and to be active in the university and community) by participating in community service projects, putting together engaging programs about social issues, and demonstrating how unity through diversity makes us as an organization empowered.

Active at UGA:

Since April 11th, 2009

Members:

Seven Undergraduate Sisters, Two Alumni Sisters

Past Events/Activities:

*Volunteer with Hunker Down with Housing 2010
*Ovarian Cancer Walk in Atlanta
*"Do You Understand the Words that are Comin' Out of My Hands?" ASL/Deaf Culture Program with the XE Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
*Stroll Out Friday (An Afternoon of Greek Unity through Strolling at Tate)
*"Consent is Sexy" Program
*Athens-Area Homeless Shelter Dinners

Plans for the Year:

We plan on hosting even more programs and/or discussions relevant to the university community as well as put on our First Annual R.A.C.E. (which stands for Recognizing and Celebrating Ethnicities). R.A.C.E. will be a free event that will showcase food, cultural items, and performances representing many of the various ethnic groups that exist here at UGA. R.A.C.E. is a program that our organization has sponsored since the early 1990s, and our chapter here at the University of Georgia is excited to be able to coordinate a very special evening for everyone here.

Benefits of being involved:

Our organization is young and multicultural in composition, which allows any and all members to be fully active upon achieving membership. We are also incredibly involved nationwide, giving members the opportunity to travel across the United States and become close with other members near and far. Finally, our sisterhood is an incredible support system which makes our organization very unique.

Student Organization Collaboration:

Our sorority recognizes Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Incorporated as our brother organization. They provide an additional support system to our organization despite being a separate organization themselves.

Awards/Recognition:

Because our chapter is still young, we have yet to win any awards as of yet. However, our organization as a whole has won a variety of accolades, including recognitions for outstanding program initiatives, amount of community service involvement, and placing in local and national stepping and/or strolling competitions.

How to get involved:

We currently have an interest program called T.I.A.R.A. which stands for Togetherness, Independence, Academics, Respect, and Achievement. If you are interested, please contact our organization for more information or attend a Ladies' Night that is held at various points throughout each semester.
